Henrico County in Virginia, US, is going ahead with a new $280m reservoir in north-west Cumberland County near the James River.

The 1,100 acre reservoir, called the Cobbs Creek Regional Water Supply Reservoir, will have a 15 billion gallon capacity and will supply 47 million gallons of water a day.

The reservoir will collect water from the James River during high water levels and supply water during droughts and other periods when river flows are inadequate, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

The reservoir is expected to be operational in 2021.
