The US Government has proposed a reduction in its 2012 budget for the Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Funds (SRFs) by $947m to $2.5bn.
The SRFs were established to help provide safe drinking water in the US.
The budget also reduced funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative by $125m to $350m.
In addition, the US budget eliminated $160m of water infrastructure funding.
This years allocation has also reduced the US Environmental Protection Agencys total budget from $10.2bn in 2010 to $8.9bn in 2012.
